When should you get tested for COVID-19?
According to WHO and the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, anyone with symptoms including fever, cough or difficulty in breathing and a travel history to any of the COVID-19 affected countries (including Italy, Republic of Korea, Iran, France, Spain, Germany, UAE, etc.) must immediately call at the 24x7 Government helpline or control room to report their condition. Additionally, anyone who has all the aforementioned symptoms and has been near a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 positive case must consult the helpline number for the same.
Can you go for a COVID-19 test on your own?
No. It is recommended that you consult your doctor or your nearest Government health care facility or MoHFW helpline and follow the testing protocol.
Can you be tested at a clinic of your choice for COVID-19?
No. Tests for the Novel Coronavirus can only be conducted in Government-certified specialized labs. You can visit the MoHFW website to find a list of government-approved labs that can conduct the COVID-19 test or log on to http//www.icmr.nic.in/ for more information.
What happens once you call at the Government Helpline Number?
According to MoHFW, the helpline number will seek your contact details to get in touch with you for the COVID-19 testing protocol. Anyone who qualifies as a case for testing as per their protocol will be tested at a Government Approved Lab only.
